Olympia gives British Dressage Hope for the Olympics.
British Riders Took the four top places in the Reem Acra FEI World Cup Dressage Qualifier at Olympia, London. Laura Bechtolsheimer and Mistral Hojris (ALF) lead in first place, Second place Charlotte Dujardin, Valegro , Carl Hester came away in third with Uthopia and fourth place was stolen by another British rider, Richard Davison on Artemis. It was a tense competition with the top three riders scores being hair splittingly close. The quality of rider and Horse combinations was described by FEI Director of Dressage, Trond Asmyr, as "the best we've had in any qualifier so far", "the three Brits at the top were so close to each other - I'm a judge myself and I wouldn't be able to split you, it was so good!" The top 3 scores were separated by half a per cent.
Ben Maher ends a Roller Coaster year with a win at Olympia
Ben Maher produced a world class performance on the nine-year-old Tripple X III to win the seventh round of the Rolex FEI World Cup™ Jumping 2011/2012 series at Olympia in London. Marcus Ehning from Germany set an impossible target having won Rolex FEI World Cup™ three times. However with a British crowd behind him, Maher beat him by 0.34 seconds.The international line-up included Ireland's Dermott Lennon who slotted into third place, ahead of America's Laura Kraut. "It's the biggest win of my career, and the perfect end to a roller-coaster year" said Maher who was thrilled to have bred and produced Tripple X III himself.
Olympia is a Challenging venue, the crowd is upbeat with Christmas excitement and displays that have been on throughout the day. The buzzy atmosphere and flash photography can place extra pressure on riders and horses when their full attention is required to tackle the testing courses.
Dorset based Australian Event Rider Sam Griffiths prepares for 2012 Event Season
In 1995, Sam Griffiths made the decision to leave his home in Australia and make a career for himself in the UK as an International Event Rider. He trained and worked as a back up rider for double Olympic gold medallist, Matt Ryan, for three years where he had the opportunity to train and compete all levels of event horses. After leaving Matt Ryan's base, Sam established his own team of horses and has since been short listed for the Athens and Beijing Olympics, finished 5th in the HSBC Classics for 2009 (a World ranking system for which points can be accumulated at the world’s four biggest three day events) and was a member of the Australian Team for the 2010 World Championships in the USA, with his top horse, Happy Times. In 2011 Sam finished 4th at Badminton 4*Horse Trials and 39th in The HSBC FEI world rankings and is currently on the Australian Elite Squad.
